Ulearum donburnsii 'Green Zafire'

Name: Ulearum donburnsii Croat & Feuerst. ‘Green Zafire’

Etymology: The specific epithet donburnsii honors Donald Burns, a former board member of the International Aroid Society. ‘Green Zafire’ refers to the green-shimmering selection.

First description: 2003 by Thomas B. Croat and Feuerstein.

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador.

Habitat: Terrestrial in moist tropical forests on the Andean slopes, known from low elevations of around 200 m. We recommend warm conditions of about 21–29 °C, high humidity, gentle air circulation, and bright, indirect light.

Description and notes: Unlike climbing Anthuriums, Ulearum donburnsii forms an underground rhizome from which new leaves emerge at intervals. ‘Green Zafire’ has green, slightly shimmering foliage. A wide pot with humus-rich, loose, and well-draining substrate supports its creeping growth. Keep evenly slightly moist and avoid waterlogging.
