Name: Sphyrospermum haughtii
Description & Notes: A rarely cultivated tropical Ericaceae with a delicate, epiphytic to shrubby growth habit and decorative evergreen foliage. The species is particularly suitable for collections of moist, warm-grown cloud forest plants and thrives in terrariums or greenhouse areas with consistent humidity and good air circulation.
Light: Bright to partial shade with plenty of filtered, indirect light. Avoid intense direct midday sun.
Temperature: Temperate to warm, ideally around 18–25 °C. Avoid prolonged periods of intense heat as well as temperatures consistently below around 14 °C.
Water & Humidity: Keep consistently lightly moist and use as soft, mineral-poor water as possible. Do not allow the root system to dry out completely, while also avoiding waterlogging. Elevated humidity of around 70–90% is beneficial, combined with good air circulation.
Substrate: Loose, acidic, and highly porous, for example fine bark with Sphagnum and mineral components such as perlite or pumice. The substrate should retain moisture while ensuring excellent drainage.
