Sphagnum moss has long been used as an almost indispensable substrate for valuable orchids, bromeliads, carnivorous plants, and others. Its moisture-retaining properties are also prized in terrarium keeping for dendrobates and other amphibians, snakes, turtles, and tarantulas, as well as for their safe transport.
Sphagnum is also ideal for air layering and rooting cuttings, stratifying and pre-germinating seeds, or as a decorative material. All in all, its moisture-retaining, highly antifungal and antibacterial properties, along with its low pH, make sphagnum a versatile material with outstanding qualities.
Our sphagnum comes from the rainy south of Chile, where it is harvested by hand and dried in the wind. Chilean sphagnum moss is a genuine natural product that regrows in 6 to 8 years and can then be harvested again, without draining the peat bogs.
