Sphagnum moss has long been used as an almost irreplaceable substrate for valuable orchids, bromeliads, carnivorous plants, and other plants. Its moisture-retaining properties are also valued in terrarium keeping for dendrobates and other amphibians, snakes, turtles, and tarantulas, as well as for their safe transport.
Sphagnum is also ideal for air layering and rooting cuttings, stratifying and pre-germinating seeds, or as a decorative material. All in all, its moisture-retaining, strongly antifungal and antibacterial effects, as well as its low pH, make sphagnum a versatile material with outstanding properties.
Our sphagnum comes from the rainy south of Chile, where it is cut by hand and dried in the wind. Chilean sphagnum moss is a genuine natural product that regrows within 6 to 8 years and can then be harvested again, without draining the bogs.
