Sphagnum moss has long been used as an almost irreplaceable substrate for valuable orchids, bromeliads, carnivorous plants and other plants. In terrarium keeping, its moisture-retaining properties are also valued for keeping poison dart frogs and other amphibians, snakes, turtles and tarantulas, as well as for their safe transport.
Sphagnum is also ideal for mossing and rooting cuttings, stratifying and pre-germinating seeds, or as a decorative material. All in all, it is the moisture-retaining, highly antifungal and antibacterial properties, as well as the low pH value, that make sphagnum a versatile material with outstanding properties.
Our sphagnum comes from the rainy south of Chile, where it is harvested by hand and dried in the wind. Chilean sphagnum moss is a genuine natural product that regrows in 6 to 8 years and can be harvested again without draining the bogs.
