Description

Porroglossum schramii

Name: Porroglossum schramii Luer

Etymology: The epithet schramii honors James Schram of Los Angeles, California, an orchid enthusiast and supporter of botanical collections.

First description: The species was described in 1980 by Carlyle A. Luer.

Origin / Habitat: Ecuador, in moist montane and cloud forests. It grows as a small, clump-forming epiphyte and prefers cool, humid conditions.

Description & Care: Miniature orchid with slender, upright inflorescences and striking, triangular-looking flowers with elongated sepal tips. We cultivate it in shade to bright indirect light, with high humidity, good air circulation, and consistent moisture. We do not allow the substrate to dry out completely. We keep it cool, at around 10–18 °C.
