Description

Porroglossum peruvianum

Name: Porroglossum peruvianum H.R.Sweet

Etymology: The genus name Porroglossum refers to the characteristic lip structure; peruvianum means "from Peru".

First description: 1973 by Herman R. Sweet.

Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Peru.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate Porroglossum peruvianum cool to intermediate at about 12–21 °C, with very high humidity, shade to bright filtered light and continuous gentle air movement. We keep the fine substrate evenly slightly moist.

Description and notes: This miniature orchid forms small leathery leaves and delicate inflorescences. As is typical for Porroglossum, it has a movable lip mechanism. The fine roots must never dry out completely.
