Description

Porroglossum hoejeri

Name: Porroglossum hoeijeri Luer

Etymology: The genus name Porroglossum refers to the characteristic tongue-shaped lip. The epithet hoeijeri honors Thomas Höijer, a Swedish orchid collector.

First description: The species was described in 1985 by Carlyle A. Luer.

Origin / Habitat: Ecuador, Carchi Province, in moist cloud forests at approximately 1900–2000 m. It grows as a small epiphyte and prefers cool conditions.

Description & Care: Miniature Porroglossum with narrow, leathery leaves and delicate flowers that appear sequentially. We cultivate it in shaded to bright indirect light, with very high humidity and good air circulation. We keep the substrate evenly moist and do not allow it to dry out completely. We keep it cool, at approximately 10–19 °C.
