Description

Porroglossum dreisei

Name: Porroglossum dreisei Luer & Andreetta

Etymology: The genus name Porroglossum refers to the characteristic lip shape of the genus. The epithet dreisei honors the German orchid expert and collector Werner Dreise.

First description: The species was described by Carlyle A. Luer and Andreetta.

Origin / Habitat: The species belongs to the moisture-loving Porroglossum of the northern Andes and grows epiphytically in moist montane forests.

Description & Care: A small, compactly growing orchid with the small, striking flowers typical of Porroglossum. We cultivate it in shaded to bright indirect light, with high humidity and good air circulation. We keep the substrate evenly moist and avoid allowing it to dry out completely. We keep it cool to temperate, at approximately 12–20 °C.
