Description

Porroglossum dejonghei

Name: Porroglossum dejonghei (Luer & Sijm) J.M.H.Shaw

Synonyms: Luzama dejonghei Luer & Sijm

Etymology: The genus name Porroglossum refers to the characteristic lip shape of the genus. The epithet dejonghei honors the Dutch orchid enthusiast and patron Peter de Jong.

First description: The species was described in 2011 by Carlyle A. Luer and Jan Sijm as Luzama dejonghei; the combination Porroglossum dejonghei was published in 2014.

Origin / Habitat: Peru, Cajamarca region, as an epiphyte in moist tropical montane forests.

Description & Care: Small, compactly growing orchid with the typical floral structures of the genus Porroglossum. We cultivate it in shaded to bright indirect light, with high humidity and good air circulation. We keep the substrate evenly moist and avoid allowing it to dry out completely. We keep it cool to temperate, at approximately 12–20 °C.
