Philodendron squamicaule 'Pink'

Surname: Philodendron squamicaule, Croat & Grayum 1997
Synonyms: not known
etymology: squamicaule: squamis = scaly, caulis = stem, a reference to densely hairy/scaly stem
Reproduction: Division
Origin: Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador
Location: hemiepiphytic along the Pacific Andes at altitudes of 100-1400m, in light, warm, humid tropical forests and wet rainforests. In Central America also on the Atlantic coast.
Remarks: Philodendron squamicaule has evenly veined leaves on short leaf stalks. As a result, the leaves are usually horizontal on the plant in their natural habitat, so that the densely hairy (scaled) reddish leaf stalks and the red undersides of the young leaves with their clearly defined leaf veins are very attractive.
