Peperomia verschaffeltii

Name: Peperomia verschaffeltii Linden
Synonyms: Peperomia sarcostachya Trel.; Peperomia sarcostachya var. repens Trel.
Etymology: The genus name Peperomia derives from Greek and refers to its similarity to Piper. The epithet verschaffeltii honors the Belgian botanical illustrator and lithographer Ambroise Verschaffelt.
First description: The species was described by Linden in 1869.
Origin / Habitat: Peru, in humid tropical habitats.
Description & Notes: A compact peperomia with fleshy, decoratively patterned leaves. We grow it in bright to partially shaded conditions, in warmth and with good air circulation. We keep the substrate loose and allow it to dry slightly between waterings. We keep it at around 18–28 °C.
