Name: Oncidium George McMahon ‘Fortuna’
Parents: Oncidium Parade × Oncidium Golden Rialto
Etymology: The genus name Oncidium derives from the Greek word for “swelling” or “tubercle” and refers to the callus on the lip. ‘Fortuna’ is the cultivar name of this selected form.
Location/Growing conditions: We recommend bright, filtered light, high humidity, and good air movement. A fine to medium-grade, airy orchid mix should be kept evenly slightly moist during growth, but never waterlogged. Cool-intermediate to intermediate temperatures of around 14–24 °C, with a distinct drop at night, are especially favorable.
Description and notes: Oncidium George McMahon ‘Fortuna’ is an attractive Oncidium hybrid with pseudobulbs, elongated leaves, and upright to arching inflorescences. Its large, striking flowers display a classic highland-influenced Oncidium form. While new growths are developing, we keep the plant regularly moist; once they have matured, watering can be reduced slightly without allowing the pseudobulbs to shrivel significantly.
