Description

Masdevallia leonii

Name: Masdevallia leonii D.E.Benn. & Christenson

Etymology: The genus Masdevallia honors the Spanish physician and botanist José Masdevall.

First described: 2001 by David E. Bennett and Eric A. Christenson.

Origin/Distribution: Peru.

Location/Habitat: Epiphytic on moss-covered trees in moist montane forests above approximately 1,900 m. Cool conditions of around 9–19 °C, high humidity, filtered light, and good air circulation are suitable.

Description and Notes: A small plant with relatively large, whitish-green flowers. Several flowers may appear successively on a flower spike. We recommend a fine, airy, moisture-retaining potting medium and consistent root moisture; avoid heat and allowing it to dry out completely.
