Description

Masdevallia anceps

Name: Masdevallia anceps Luer & Hirtz

Synonyms: Spilotantha anceps (Luer & Hirtz) Luer

Etymology: The genus name Masdevallia honors José Masdevall; anceps means figuratively “double” or “two-edged.”

First described: 1991 by Carlyle A. Luer and Alexander Hirtz.

Origin/distribution: The species is native to Ecuador.

Location/habitat: We grow Masdevallia anceps cool at around 10–20 °C, with very high humidity, shade to bright filtered light, and continuous gentle air movement. We keep the fine substrate evenly slightly moist.

Description and notes: This very small Masdevallia has compact shoots and delicate flowers. It is particularly suitable for moist terrarium culture. The fine roots must never dry out completely.
