Description

Lepanthes pelvis x Lepanthes niesseniae

Name: Lepanthes pelvis × Lepanthes niesseniae

Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from the Greek lepis ("scale") and anthos ("flower"). pelvis means "pelvis" and refers to the shape of the lip when spread out; niesseniae honors Andrea Niessen.

Origin / Breeding: Hybrid of Lepanthes pelvis × Lepanthes niesseniae. L. pelvis comes from the mountain forests of Costa Rica and grows there epiphytically at about 2100 m; L. niesseniae comes from Colombia.

Description & Notes: Small Lepanthes hybrid with single leaves and small flowers appearing one after another. We grow it in bright to shaded conditions, with high humidity and good air circulation. We keep the substrate evenly slightly moist and avoid complete drying out. We cultivate it at about 10–18 °C.
