Description

Lepanthes teretipetala

Name: Lepanthes teretipetala Hespenh. & Dod

Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from the Greek lepis ("scale") and anthos ("flower"). The epithet teretipetala refers to the round, cylindrical shape of the petals.

Original description: The species was described in 1990 by Carlyle A. Luer, José A. Hespenheide, and collaborators.

Origin / Habitat: Dominican Republic, Sierra de Bahoruco, in humid mountain forests. It grows epiphytically.

Description & Notes: A small epiphytic Lepanthes with slender shoots and a single leathery leaf. The delicate inflorescences bear several flowers in succession. We cultivate it in shady to bright indirect light, with high humidity, good air circulation, and consistent moisture. We keep it cool to intermediate, at approximately 12–22 °C.
