Name: Lepanthes fusiformis
Etymology: The genus name Lepanthes is derived from Greek roots meaning "scale" and "flower." The specific epithet fusiformis means "spindle-shaped" and refers to a characteristic feature of the flower shape.
Origin/Distribution: Tropical Andean region of South America.
Location/Habitat: Epiphytic miniature orchid of humid mountain forests. We recommend shaded to bright filtered light, very high humidity, good gentle air circulation, and intermediate temperatures.
Description and Notes: Lepanthes fusiformis is a small Pleurothallidinae with fine shoots, lepanthiform sheaths typical of the genus, and delicate flowers. It is particularly well-suited for a display case or terrarium with consistently high humidity. We cultivate it mounted with some sphagnum moss or in a very fine, airy substrate. The fine roots should remain consistently slightly moist and should never dry out completely. Temperatures of approximately 15–24 °C are well-suited.
