Name: Dracula cordobae Luer
Etymology: The specific epithet cordobae honors Clever Cordoba, who collected the species in Ecuador.
First described: In 1979 by Carlyle A. Luer.
Origin/Distribution: Ecuador.
Habitat: Epiphytic on mossy branches in very humid forests of the southwestern Andes, at about 750–1,000 m above sea level. Its relatively low-altitude origin makes the species somewhat more heat-tolerant than many other Dracula. We recommend temperatures of about 15–24 °C, high humidity, shaded light, and constant air movement.
Description and notes: Flower stems up to about 12 cm long grow mostly horizontally to pendulously and bear one or two striking flowers in succession, each up to approximately 10 cm across. An open basket or a very fine, airy, moisture-retentive medium is ideal. Keep evenly moist and avoid both waterlogging and allowing it to dry out completely.
