Dendrochilum wenzelii 'Red'

Name: Coelogyne wenzelii (Ames) M.W.Chase & Schuit. ‘Red’

Synonym: Dendrochilum wenzelii Ames

Etymology: The genus name Coelogyne derives from Greek and refers to the hollowed stigma; wenzelii is a commemorative name. ‘Red’ denotes the intensely reddish selection.

Origin/Distribution: Philippines.

Location/Habitat: We grow this selection under intermediate to warm conditions at about 17–28 °C, with high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air movement. During growth, the airy medium is kept evenly and slightly moist.

Description and Notes: The plant forms compact clumps and numerous small, intensely reddish flowers on arching to pendent inflorescences. After new growths mature, we reduce watering slightly without allowing the plant to dry out completely.
