Name: Dendrochilum javierianum Magrath, Bulmer & I.Shafer
Synonym: Coelogyne javieriana (Magrath, Bulmer & I.Shafer) M.W.Chase & Schuit.
Etymology: The genus name Dendrochilum is derived from Greek words for “tree” and “lip.” The specific epithet honors Filipino orchid growers Elias and Alicia Javier.
First description: In 1989 by L.K. Magrath, M. Bulmer, and I. Shafer in Lindleyana.
Origin/Distribution: Philippines.
Location/Habitat: Epiphytic in moss cushions on trunks and branches in moist montane and cloud forests, above about 1,200 m. We recommend cool to intermediate conditions of approximately 12–22 °C, high humidity, and good air circulation.
Description and Notes: A compact orchid with firm leaves and delicate flower spikes. Keep the fine, airy, slightly moisture-retentive substrate evenly moist without allowing it to become waterlogged. Bright, filtered light promotes vigorous growth.
