Name: Cryptanthus bivittatus (Hook.) Regel ‘Pink Starlight’
Etymology: The genus name Cryptanthus roughly means “hidden flower.” The specific epithet bivittatus refers to two longitudinal stripes; ‘Pink Starlight’ denotes the pink-colored cultivar.
Origin: The species is native to Brazil; ‘Pink Starlight’ is a cultivated selection.
Location/Growing conditions: We grow the plant in warm conditions at about 20–28 °C, with moderate to high humidity and bright, indirect light. We keep the loose, humus-rich, well-draining substrate slightly moist, but avoid leaving it persistently wet.
Description and notes: This compact terrestrial bromeliad forms a flat, star-shaped rosette with vivid pink to deep pink leaves and contrasting longitudinal stripes. Bright, diffuse light helps maintain intense coloration. After flowering, the mother rosette produces offsets, from which new plants develop.
