Description

Cattleya walkeriana var. semi-alba

Name: Cattleya walkeriana f. semialba

Etymology: The genus name Cattleya honors William Cattley; walkeriana commemorates E. Walker, a companion of George Gardner on his journey to Brazil.

Origin/Distribution: Cattleya walkeriana is native to Brazil.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate this color form in warm to intermediate conditions at approximately 18–28 °C, in very bright conditions with excellent air circulation. The coarse potting medium should dry out significantly between waterings; once the shoots have matured, we reduce watering and fertilization.

Description and Notes: The semialba form features light sepals and petals with a contrasting colored lip. Cattleya walkeriana remains relatively compact and is known for its large, often pleasantly scented flowers.
