Name: Bulbophyllum longiscapum Rolfe
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum means “bulb leaf.” The specific epithet longiscapum means “long-stalked” and refers to the inflorescence.
First described: In 1896 by Robert Allen Rolfe.
Origin/Distribution: From New Guinea and the Solomon Islands through Vanuatu and Fiji to Tonga and Samoa.
Location/Habitat: Epiphytic in mangroves and open lowland forests, from sea level to about 500 m. The species prefers warm conditions of approximately 21–30 °C, high humidity, and good air movement.
Description and notes: The long-stalked inflorescences can produce flowers repeatedly in succession, so they should not be removed too hastily after flowering. A coarse, airy substrate that retains a little moisture is suitable. Water consistently and avoid prolonged drought.
