Name: Anthurium rugulosum Sodiro ‘Chita’
Etymology: The genus name Anthurium derives from the Greek anthos (“flower”) and oura (“tail”). The specific epithet rugulosum means “slightly wrinkled” and refers to the characteristic leaf surface. ‘Chita’ designates the offered selection.
First description: 1902 by Luis Sodiro.
Origin/distribution: Ecuador.
Location/habitat: In moist Andean and cloud forests at mid to high elevations. We cultivate the species in cool to intermediate conditions at around 14–23 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright to partial shade, indirect light. We keep the coarse, humus-rich substrate evenly slightly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
Description and notes: Anthurium rugulosum has firm, elongated leaves with a distinctly textured to finely wrinkled surface. The species particularly prefers lower temperatures at night than many tropical lowland anthuriums. Even moisture, cool nights, and good air circulation support vigorous, healthy growth.
