Name: Anthurium peltigerum Sodiro ‘Narrow’
Etymology: The genus name Anthurium derives from the Greek “anthos” (flower) and “oura” (tail). The specific epithet peltigerum means “bearing a shield”; ‘Narrow’ refers to the narrow-leaved selection.
First described: 1905 by Luis Sodiro.
Origin/Distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.
Location/Habitat: Mostly epiphytic in moist premontane and montane forests, at elevations of approximately 425–2,100 m. We recommend warm-temperate conditions of approximately 17–27 °C, high humidity, and bright, filtered light.
Description and Notes: The ‘Narrow’ selection has narrower, shield-like leaves with distinctive parallel venation. Young leaves appear lighter and glossy, later becoming darker. A coarse, airy aroid substrate, consistent light moisture, and good air circulation promote healthy growth.
