Description

Anthurium cubense

Name: Anthurium cubense Engl.

Etymology: The epithet cubense means "originating from Cuba".

Origin/Distribution: Caribbean and Central America.

Location/Habitat: Terrestrial to epiphytic in warm tropical habitats. We cultivate the species in warm conditions at around 21–29 °C, with good air circulation and moderate to high humidity. The coarse substrate may dry out slightly on the surface between waterings.

Description and Notes: Striking features include the prominent leaf venation and the long flower spike, which can turn dark reddish to purple when mature. The robust species is well suited to warm, bright conditions without intense midday sun.
