Name: Anthurium brownii Mast. ‘No. 5’
Etymology: The specific epithet brownii presumably honors the botanist Robert Brown. ‘No. 5’ designates the selection offered.
Origin/Distribution: From Costa Rica and Panama to Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela.
Habitat/Growing conditions: Terrestrial to hemiepiphytic in moist tropical and pre-montane forests from the lowlands up to about 1,200 m. We recommend warm conditions of approximately 19–29 °C, high humidity, and bright, filtered light.
Description and notes: This variable species changes its leaf shape significantly with age and can carry inflorescences and fruiting structures simultaneously. ‘No. 5’ is a selected cultivar. This S-sized plant should be potted in a coarse, airy aroid substrate and kept consistently slightly moist. A climbing support encourages its hemiepiphytic growth; avoid waterlogging.
