Name: Anthurium bernalii Croat
Etymology: The genus name Anthurium derives from the Greek anthos ("flower") and oura ("tail"). The specific epithet bernalii honors the Colombian botanist Rodrigo Bernal González.
First described: 2009 by Thomas B. Croat.
Origin/Distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.
Location/Habitat: In moist tropical Andean forests, terrestrial to climbing or hemiepiphytic. We cultivate the species intermediately at approximately 16–25 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright to partial shade, indirect light. We keep the coarse, humus-rich aroid substrate evenly slightly moist.
Description and Notes: Anthurium bernalii has long, relatively narrow, and firm leaves with a distinctly textured surface. As it ages, the plant develops a stronger, climbing growth habit. A sturdy climbing support and a very airy root environment support its natural development.
