Description

Anthurium balaoanum

Name: Anthurium balaoanum Engl.

Etymology: balaoanum refers to Balao in Ecuador.

First description: 1898 by Adolf Engler.

Origin/Distribution: The species originates from Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate Anthurium balaoanum in warm conditions at about 20–29 °C, with high humidity, bright indirect light, and good air circulation. We keep the coarse, airy aroid substrate consistently slightly moist.

Description and notes: This vigorous species develops large, elongated to arrow-shaped leaves on long petioles and can reach an impressive size as it matures. A trellis or climbing support can provide additional stability for larger plants.
