Name: Alocasia wentii Engl. & K.Krause ‘Aurea Variegata’
Etymology: The genus name Alocasia was derived from Colocasia; ‘Aurea Variegata’ describes the yellow to golden variegation of this cultivar.
First description: The species was described in 1916 by Adolf Engler and Kurt Krause.
Origin/Distribution: The wild species is native to New Guinea.
Location/Habitat: We grow ‘Aurea Variegata’ in warm conditions at around 20–29 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. We keep the loose, well-structured substrate evenly moist and avoid waterlogging.
Description and notes: The bold leaves show variable yellow to golden variegation on a green background. Each plant develops an individual pattern. Bright, sheltered light supports the coloration, while intense direct sunlight can damage the leaves, especially the lighter areas.
