Etymology: The genus name Alocasia refers to the related genus Colocasia. macrorrhizos means “large-rooted”; ‘Variegata’ denotes the variegated cultivar.
Origin: The species is native to tropical Asia and the western Pacific; the variegated form is cultivated worldwide.
Location/Growing conditions: We grow the plant in warm conditions at around 21–30°C, with high humidity and very bright, indirect light. We keep the nutrient-rich, airy substrate evenly slightly moist and avoid waterlogging and cold.
Description and notes: This large-growing Alocasia develops massive green leaves with irregular cream-white to white variegation. The pattern varies from leaf to leaf. As it ages, the plant requires plenty of space and a good supply of nutrients.
