Description

Alocasia infernalis 'Black Magic'

Name: Alocasia infernalis P.C.Boyce ‘Black Magic’

Etymology: infernalis means roughly “hellish” and refers to the unusually dark leaf coloration. ‘Black Magic’ denotes the selection offered.

First description: 2007 by Peter C. Boyce.

Origin/Distribution: Borneo.

Location/Habitat: Terrestrial in moist lowland forests. We grow the species warm at around 22–29 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright to semi-shaded indirect light. We keep the humus-rich substrate evenly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: This compact species develops exceptionally dark, metallic purple to nearly black leaves. Mature plants in particular develop an intense sheen, making ‘Black Magic’ a striking collector’s plant.
