Description

Alocasia azlanii S (11 cm pot)

Name: Alocasia azlanii K.M.Wong & P.C.Boyce

Etymology: The specific epithet azlanii honors Azlan Pandai, a plant collector at the Brunei National Herbarium.

Origin/Distribution: Brunei.

Habitat/Environment: Terrestrial in warm tropical rainforests. We grow the species in warm conditions at around 21–28 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. We keep the coarse, humus-rich, and well-draining substrate evenly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: Alocasia azlanii is a compact jewel Alocasia with highly glossy dark green to purple-black leaves. A metallic sheen, purple-pink leaf veins, and the green leaf margin make the species unmistakable. We avoid waterlogging and cold conditions.
