etymology: ernestii = Ernst Heinrich Georg Ule (* 12 March 1854 in Halle an der Saale; † 15 July 1915 in Berlin) was a Prussian, German botanist and explorer. He was the brother of the geographer Wilhelm Ule. His botanical author abbreviation is "Ule"

Location: hemiepiphytic, climbing in tropical rainforest in dense forests along the eastern Andes and in the Amazon basin, in shady places from sea level to 500 m.
Remarks: Engler described this species as Philodendron ernestii based on a plant found by Ule near Jurua in the state of Amazonas, Brazil (Record no. 5770).
