Name: Philodendron spiritus-sancti G.S.Bunting
Etymology: The specific epithet spiritus-sancti refers to the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo.
First described: In 1987 by George S. Bunting.
Origin/Distribution: Brazil, state of Espírito Santo.
Location/Habitat: Hemiepiphytic to climbing in warm, humid Atlantic forests. We cultivate the species in warm conditions at around 20–28 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light. A climbing support and a coarse, very airy aroid substrate are ideal.
Description and notes: As it matures, Philodendron spiritus-sancti develops exceptionally long, narrow, drooping leaves. Young plants initially show only the beginnings of this characteristic form. Consistent warmth, high humidity, and a well-aerated root zone promote healthy growth.
