Philodendron sharoniae 'Mosquera'

Name: Philodendron sharoniae Croat ‘Mosquera’

Etymology: The specific epithet sharoniae honors Sharon Christoph Davidson, a field companion and supporter of aroid research. ‘Mosquera’ refers to the offered cultivar or form.

Origin/Distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.

Habitat: Epiphytic to hemiepiphytic in moist tropical and montane forests from lowland areas to approximately 2,300 m. We recommend temperate to warm conditions of approximately 18–27 °C, high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light.

Description and Notes: This climbing species develops unusually long, narrow leaves, the blades of which can be distinctly constricted in the middle depending on the form. ‘Mosquera’ is a selected form of this variable leaf character. A tall support helps larger, more mature leaves. Keep a coarse, slightly moisture-retaining aroid substrate evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
