Name: Philodendron sharoniae ‘Goat’
Etymology: The genus name Philodendron is derived from the Greek words phílos (“loving”) and déndron (“tree”) and refers to the climbing growth habit of many species. The epithet sharoniae is a personal name in the honorific form; ‘Goat’ designates the offered selection.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to northwestern South America.
Location/Habitat: Climbing in moist tropical forests. Bright, filtered light, high humidity, and warm to intermediate temperatures of approximately 18–28 °C are suitable.
Description and Notes: Philodendron sharoniae develops long, narrow, distinctly wavy leaf blades and requires climbing support as it grows larger. The ‘Goat’ selection is cultivated for its distinctive leaf shape. We use a coarse, airy aroid substrate, keep it consistently lightly moist, and allow the top layer to dry out slightly between waterings. A tall climbing support helps promote the development of larger leaves.
