Philodendron ruizii

Name: Philodendron ruizii Schott

Etymology: The specific epithet ruizii commemorates the Spanish botanist Hipólito Ruiz López.

Origin/Distribution: Western South America.

Site/Habitat: Predominantly epiphytic, occasionally terrestrial, in humid Andean forests. We grow this species in intermediate to warm conditions at around 17–27 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light.

Description and Notes: Philodendron ruizii has sturdy, leathery, dark green, slightly glossy leaves. The relatively short internodes give older plants a compact appearance. This robust species grows well in coarse, well-aerated aroid substrate that is kept evenly and lightly moist.
