Name: Philodendron rugosum Bogner & G.S.Bunting
Etymology: The genus name is derived from the Greek words “phílos” (friend) and “déndron” (tree). The specific epithet rugosum means “wrinkled” and describes the strongly textured leaf surface.
First description: In 1983 by Josef Bogner and George S. Bunting.
Origin/Distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.
Habitat: Climbing epiphytically or lithophytically in humid montane forests at elevations of about 1,000–1,700 m. We recommend a temperature of approximately 17–27 °C, high humidity, bright filtered light, and a sturdy climbing support.
Description and notes: The thick, broadly ovate leaves have a distinctive, embossed, leather-like surface. A moss pole encourages larger leaves. Keep the coarse, airy aroid substrate evenly slightly moist and avoid waterlogging.
