Philodendron roseocataphyllum

Name: Philodendron roseocataphyllum Croat & M.M.Mora

Etymology: The specific epithet roseocataphyllum combines the Latin roseus (“rose-colored”) with “cataphyll” and refers to the strikingly pink protective leaves of young shoots.

Origin/Distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.

Habitat: Hemiepiphytic to epiphytic in very humid, warm forests of the Pacific region. We grow this species in warm conditions at around 20–28 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light.

Description and notes: Philodendron roseocataphyllum has relatively short internodes and glossy green leaves. The pink cataphylls on young shoots are especially distinctive. A climbing support and coarse, airy aroid substrate promote healthy growth.
