Description

Philodendron quelalii 'Round'

Name: Philodendron quelalii Croat & M.M.Mora ‘Round’

Etymology: The specific epithet quelalii honors the Ecuadorian botanist Carlos Quelal. ‘Round’ refers to the rounder leaf shape of this selection.

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador.

Habitat/Environment: Terrestrial in moist tropical to montane forests in western Ecuador. We cultivate the species in intermediate to warm conditions at around 18–27 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. We keep the coarse, humus-rich substrate evenly moist.

Description and Notes: Philodendron quelalii has short internodes and a comparatively compact growth habit. The ‘Round’ selection is distinguished by particularly round leaf proportions and is therefore well suited for collections with limited space.
