Name: Philodendron pseudoverrucosum Croat
Etymology: The specific epithet combines “pseudo” for “apparently” with verrucosum and refers to its similarity to Philodendron verrucosum.
First described: 2013 by Thomas B. Croat.
Origin/Distribution: Ecuador and Peru.
Location/Habitat: Terrestrial to hemiepiphytic on rocky stream banks and in shaded Andean forests, at elevations of approximately 1,200–1,500 m. We recommend temperate to warm conditions of approximately 17–27 °C, high humidity, and good air circulation.
Description and Notes: Young leaves unfurl with a metallic, velvety sheen and develop distinctive light-colored venation. A support stake helps hold up larger, mature leaves. Keep a coarse, slightly moisture-retaining aroid potting mix evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Bright indirect light maintains compact growth.
