Name: Philodendron plowmanii
Origin / Habitat: This tropical species is native to western South America and grows in moist forest habitats. It is characterized by its creeping growth along the ground.
Description & Notes: Philodendron plowmanii is an attractive foliage plant with large, heart-shaped to broadly oval leaves. Its ruffled petioles and interesting leaf markings are particularly striking. The rhizome grows horizontally, so we recommend using wide planters.
Light: Bright to partially shaded, with plenty of indirect light. Protect from intense direct midday sun.
Temperature: Warm to moderate, ideally around 20–28 °C. Avoid prolonged cool conditions below about 16 °C.
Water & Humidity: Keep evenly and slightly moist without allowing the substrate to remain wet for extended periods. The top layer of substrate can dry out slightly between waterings. Humidity of around 60–80% and good air circulation encourage strong growth and large leaves.
Substrate: A very loose, airy aroid mix made from coarse bark, coconut chips or coir, and mineral components such as perlite or pumice. A wide pot or elongated planter gives the creeping rhizome enough room.
