Description

Philodendron patriciae

Name: Philodendron patriciae Croat

Etymology: The specific epithet patriciae honors Patricia Swope Croat, the wife of the describing botanist, Thomas B. Croat.

Origin/Distribution: Colombia.

Location/Habitat: Epiphytic to climbing in very warm, humid forests of Colombia’s Pacific region. We grow this species in warm conditions at around 21–29 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light. A climbing support is recommended.

Description and Notes: As it matures, Philodendron patriciae develops exceptionally long, narrow to elongated leaves that hang down elegantly. We keep it evenly and slightly moist in a coarse, airy aroid mix. Good air circulation supports healthy growth, especially in high humidity.
