Description

Philodendron lynamii

Name: Philodendron lynamii Croat

Etymology: The specific epithet lynamii honors plant enthusiast and aroid collector Ralph Lynam.

Origin/Distribution: Peru.

Location/Habitat: Terrestrial and creeping in warm, humid tropical forests. We grow this species in warm conditions at around 20–28 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. A wide pot with a coarse, humus-rich, well-aerated aroid mix is well suited to its creeping growth habit.

Description and Notes: Philodendron lynamii is especially prized for its colorful new growth. Young leaves can appear intensely red to copper-colored, turning increasingly green as they mature; the undersides of the leaves can also retain reddish tones for a long time.
