Name: Philodendron luxurians Croat, D.P.Hannon & R.Kaufmann
Etymology: The genus name is composed of the Greek words “phílos” (friend) and “déndron” (tree). The specific epithet luxurians means “lush.”
First description: In 2020 by Thomas B. Croat, David P. Hannon and R. Kaufmann.
Origin/Distribution: Colombia.
Location/Cultivation conditions: The species is only incompletely documented at its natural habitat. In cultivation, temperate conditions of approximately 16–26 °C, high humidity, bright filtered light and good air circulation have proven successful.
Description and notes: The large, dark green leaves have a strikingly textured, embossed surface. A climbing support encourages the development of mature leaves. We use a coarse, airy substrate and keep it evenly slightly moist, without waterlogging.
