Name: Philodendron heterocraspedon Croat & D.C.Bay
Etymology: The genus name is derived from the Greek words "phílos" (friend) and "déndron" (tree). The specific epithet combines "hetero" (different) with "craspedon" (edge/margin) and refers to the differently shaped edges of the deeply grooved petioles.
First described: 2008 by Thomas B. Croat and David C. Bay in Novon.
Origin/Distribution: Endemic to Colombia.
Habitat: Mostly hemiepiphytic, occasionally terrestrial in moist lowland forests of Valle del Cauca, at approximately 20–270 m elevation. Suitable conditions are warm temperatures of about 21–30 °C, high humidity, and bright, filtered light.
Description and notes: The species produces long, narrow, pendulous leaves with numerous arcuate lateral veins. A tall climbing support allows its habit to be displayed to good effect. Keep a coarse, airy substrate consistently slightly moist and avoid waterlogging.
