Name: Philodendron gloriosum André ‘Zebra’
Etymology: The specific epithet gloriosum means “splendid” or “glorious.” ‘Zebra’ refers to the particularly contrasting, pale leaf venation of this selection.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to tropical America.
Location/Growing Conditions: We grow this creeping plant in warm conditions at around 20–28 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. A wide pot filled with a coarse, humus-rich, well-aerated aroid mix gives the rhizome plenty of room.
Description and Notes: ‘Zebra’ develops large, velvety green, heart-shaped leaves with particularly prominent pale venation. Unlike climbing Philodendron species, Philodendron gloriosum grows with a horizontal rhizome across the surface of the substrate. Consistent, light moisture without waterlogging promotes vigorous growth.
