Description

Philodendron esmeraldense 'Narrow'

Name: Philodendron esmeraldense Croat ‘Narrow’

Etymology: The specific epithet esmeraldense refers to the Ecuadorian province of Esmeraldas. ‘Narrow’ describes the narrow-leaved selection.

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador and Colombia.

Location/Habitat: Epiphytic to terrestrial in humid tropical forests. We grow the plant in warm conditions at around 20–28 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light. A climbing support and coarse aroid substrate encourage larger leaves.

Description and Notes: ‘Narrow’ develops narrower and generally shorter leaves than the typical form. The long petioles allow the leaf blades to hang elegantly. In bright conditions, the foliage may temporarily show reddish hues.
